Lecture · A2
Cuando mis abuelos eran jóvenes
A student writes about her grandparents Rosa and Manuel in Cuenca in the 1960s: the city was small and quiet, there were few cars and no mobile phones, so Manuel wrote letters to Rosa; he worked in a workshop making toquilla-straw hats and she sold bread at the market; on Sundays they walked by the Tomebamba river. They met at a neighbourhood party in 1965. Her grandmother says life was slower then, but not easier.
